5 tips to help your kids adjust to their new school
There are several tips that you can use to help your kids to
adjust to a new school.
Teacher
The first tip is to make sure that you teach your child how
important it is to bond with the teacher. The child is going to need to connect
with the person who is going to be protecting them while they are in school.
This is the best way that the child is going to feel safe when they are not
around you. You never want your child to put too anxious because they are not
going to be able to learn this way. If you notice that your child has some
anxiety about going to school, then you want to get in contact with the teacher
as soon as possible. All that you have to do is to explain to the teacher that
your child is having some problems settling in with the new school. This will
show the teacher that they might have to reach out a little to ensure that the
child is going to feel at home when they are in their classroom. Therefore, you
might want to ask for a teacher that has some experience with teaching for many
years.
Children
The second tip is to make sure that your child has the
ability to bond with the other children in their classroom. It is very
important that the child has at least one friend. You can talk to the teacher
to see if your child has any friends inside of the classroom. You can also have
your child is there are any friends that they might want to come over to play
with. If the child is not comfortable with this, then you can ask another mom
to ice cream after school or even see if the whole family would like to come
over for dinner. This will allow the child to get to know their child better,
and then you might even have the chance to be friends with the parent of the
child. This is something that everyone is going to benefit from especially when
you have relocated to a different school district. This is because you are
probably not going to have a lot of friends in the area so this is going to be
your opportunity to do so with your child.
Ritual
The third tip to help your child when you have relocated is
to give your child a way of connecting to you throughout their day at school.
This can be done in the form of a ritual. Most of the time, one of the hardest
parts of going to school for your child is to say goodbye to you. This ritual
can be in the form of a hug and saying that you are going to tell them every
day until you think that they are going to be comfortable enough to leave you
without any problems. It might also be a good idea to be a picture of the
family inside of their backpack so that they will be able to see it when they
are missing you. Other children might like something inside of the pocket that
has some meaning to them. These things might include a love note on a piece of
paper or a something that you found together. It just needs to remind them that
they are not alone when they are away from them.
Fears
The fourth tip for helping the kids adjust to calm their
fears. Most of the time, the biggest fear that the child is going to have about
leaving you is that you are going to disappear or die when they are in school.
You need to explain to the child that it is okay to have this fear when they
are going to be entering into a new situation. They will need to understand
that the teacher is going to be able to take care of them while they are in
school. You can tell them that when people love each other, it is going to be
natural that they miss each other when they are away from each other but they
are still going to be able to have fun while they are still in school and they
will be fine. They also need to know that the school knows how to get in
contact with you if you need them. You will need to end every conversation that
you have with them stating that you will always come back to get them so they
are not worried.
Laughing
The last tip for helping kids adjust to a new school is to
teach your child how they can laugh when they are having any type of anxiety so
that the child is not going to cry. Most of the time, when a child is starting
a different school, then they are going to feel anxiety about the different
school. Therefore, you need to think about all of the different ways that you
can make your child laugh before they go to school. this might be playing one
of their favorite games so that the separation from you when they go to school
is going to be a lot easier for them. But you need to make sure that you are
not tickling them. This is because it going to work the different part of the
brain that can cause the child to express their stress hormones.
