History: Scottsdale was incorporated in 1951 with a population of 2,000 and was named in 1894 after its founder Winfield Scott, a retired U.S. Army chaplain. During WWI Scottsdale supported a large cotton farming industry, and during The Depression saw an influx of artists and architects to the area. This included Frank Lloyd Wright, who established his architectural headquarters in the city; due to this, Scottsdale has seen an everlasting influence from Wright with many buildings throughout the region having been designed by him. The current population is 262,222.
